First
Pacific RIB ready for France
VT
Halmatic is weeks away from handing over the first of a new generation of
advanced rigid inflatable boats (RIBs) to the French Marine Commandos. Based
on the Pacific 28 RIB, which is already in widespread service with the UK
Royal Navy, the new variant incorporates features developed specifically
for the French requirement.

Recently
formed Team LM, headed by MBDA UK, has unveiled its Fire Shadow weapon system
at DSEi to meet part of the British Army's Indirect Fire Precision Attack
requirement for a low-cost all-weather precise strike capability at long
range.

Present
day conflicts and internal security threats make increasing use of special
forces necessary. Small but highly trained teams often employ surprise as
a major tactic and the ability to rapidly ascend or descend can be important.
The Upstart rapid rope climbing device being shown by QinetiQ on Stand 641
never fails to draw crowds, as an athletic man makes use of the device.

is completing final preparations aboard the guided weapons trials barge
Longbow ahead of a campaign of test firings for the UK Royal Navy's nextgeneration
Principal Anti-Air Missile System (Sampson) - PAAMS(S) - air defence weapon
system. PAAMS(S) will equip the RN's six new Type 45 air defence destroyers,
the first of which, Daring, completed initial sea trials in August.

German
Army brings Mikado to London
The
German Army (Heer) is becoming increasingly involved in out-of-area operations
and has now fielded a complete family of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV)
to provide all units with an enhanced reconnaissance capability. The smallest
of these is the Mikado mini-UAV, which is deployed by German Army infantry
at the section level to give a real-time surveillance capability, especially
in urban operations.

Sweden's
stealth ship makes its entrance
The
Swedish Visby class corvette HSwMS Nyköping (K34) arrived at the Royal
Docks Lock in the early hours of Monday morning flanked by two German minesweepers
at the end of its journey to ExCeL. Nyköping is the fourth of the five
Visby class vessels, all of which have been built by Kockums (part of ThyssenKrupp
Marine Systems group).

shines on sea trials
The
UK Royal Navy's (RN) first Type 45 destroyer, Daring, has won wide praise
after performing beyond all expectations during a 28-day period of Stage
1.1 sea trials completed last month.
